Definition of "the Railway".

1.

*The Railway" means the Railway now in

course of construction by the Hongkong Government in the Colony

of Hongkong from Kowloon to the Worth side of the bridge at

Lo Fu (hereinafter referred to as "the British Section"), and

the Railway now in course of construction by the Imperial

Chinese Government from Panguinem Canton to the North side of

the said bridge (hereinafter referred to as "the Chinese

Section"), together with all such land, stations, workshops, and

other buildings belonging to the said Railway and all such

yards, junctions, sidings, looplines and deviations now or

hereafter to be constructed in connection with either Section

of the said Railway, as shall be included in the Capital Cost

of each Section as defined by Article 8 hereof.

Joint Management and General Rules.

2. The Railway shall be worked by a Board of

Control and a General Manager as a joint undertaking on behalf

of the Hongkong Government and the Imperial Chinese Government,

and in accordance with such General Rules approved by the two

Governments as shall be made for the safe and efficient working

of the Railway, together with such Subsidiary Rules as shall

from time to time be necessary to meet local requirements and be

approved by the two Governments, and in accordance with the Code

of Procedure as hereinafter defined.

The General Rules and the Code of Procedure

shall be drawn up and agreed upon by the Hongkong and Chinese

Governments concurrently with this Working Agreement, and any

amendments therein which may hereafter be required shall only

be made with the consent of the two Goverments concerned.
